SINOPSIS:
Brasil, 1977. Marcelo, un experto en tecnología de poco más de 40 años, está huyendo. Llega a Recife durante la semana de carnaval con la esperanza de reencontrarse con su hijo, pero pronto se da cuenta de que la ciudad está lejos de ser el refugio pacífico que busca.

Kleber Mendonça Filho (Recife, 22 de noviembre de 1968) es un director, guionista, productor, crítico y programador de cine brasileño. Se graduó en periodismo por la Universidad Federal de Pernambuco y trabajó como crítico para Jornal do Commercio, Folha de S.Paulo, Continente, Cinética y su sitio CinemaScópio . Además, es cofundador y director artístico del festival Janela Internacional de Cinema do Recife y programador en el Instituto Moreira Salles. Su primer largometraje fue el documental Crítico (2008), y se dio a conocer internacionalmente con O Som ao Redor (2012), premiado en Roterdã, Gramado y elegido uno de los mejores del año por el New York Times Continuó el éxito con Aquarius (2016), que compitió en Cannes, y Bacurau (2019), galardonado con el Premio del Jurado en dicho festival Sus documentales recientes incluyen Retratos Fantasmas (2023), seleccionado para el Oscar Brasil, y O Agente Secreto (2025), que le valió el premio a Mejor Director en Cannes. Kleber Mendonça Filho (born November 22, 1968, in Recife, Brazil) is a Brazilian film director, screenwriter, producer, critic, and film programmer. He graduated in journalism from the Federal University of Pernambuco and began his career as a film critic, writing for Jornal do Commercio, Folha de S.Paulo, Continente, Cinética, and his own site CinemaScópio. He is also the co-founder and artistic director of the Janela Internacional de Cinema do Recife and a programmer at the Instituto Moreira Salles. His first feature was the documentary Crítico (2008), but he gained international recognition with Neighboring Sounds (O Som ao Redor, 2012), which received awards at festivals such as Rotterdam and Gramado and was named one of the best films of the year by The New York Times. He followed this with Aquarius (2016), which competed at the Cannes Film Festival, and Bacurau (2019), which won the Jury Prize at Cannes. His recent documentaries include Pictures of Ghosts (Retratos Fantasmas, 2023), Brazil’s submission for the 2024 Oscars, and The Secret Agent (O Agente Secreto, 2025), for which he received the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival. Mendonça Filho’s work is known for its sharp examination of Brazil’s social and political tensions—especially in his hometown of Recife—often blending social critique with genre elements and touches of magical realism.
